LATEST NEWS ON APPLIED PHYSICS

General Anonymous writes: EMORY CHEMISTS CREATE UNPRECEDENTED METALLIC MOLECULE, November 26
For the first time ever, Emory University researchers have broken through the so-called "oxo-wall" to create stable multiple chemical bonds between oxygen and platinum - once thought impossible because oxygen is extremely unstable when combined with certain metals. The breakthrough holds the potential for numerous applications in fuel cells, catalytic converters and emerging 'green' chemistry.

'LISTEN, TWO BLACK HOLES ARE CLASHING!', November 26
MiniGRAIL: first spherical gravitational wave antenna in the world

Since last week, Professor Giorgio Frossati of Leiden University's Institute of Physics can 'listen' to gravitational waves. That is, if such a wave happens to come along. Gravitational waves originate from violent clashes between black holes in the universe and from instabilities in neutron stars.

ARCTIC CLIMATE CHANGE UNCOVERED, November 26
56 million years of Arctic history were recently uncovered during the course of the world's largest Earth Science programme, which should enable scientists to understand climate change more effectively.
The University of Leicester Geology Department is playing a significant part in the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP), which began in 2003 and has a predicted budget of $160M per annum by 2007.

Wow, a new combination of elements. Could it be this was created in a Plasma reactor, maybe even a new type of Plasma Reactor?

Maybe someone will make Iron doped synthetic diamond someday - even though everyone with a Ph.D. knows with absolute certainty that it is impossible.
