Nanobattery Development, New Li-Ion and Zinc-Air Batteries, etc.
Posted on Monday, June 27, 2005 @ 20:40:42 GMT by vlad

Devices "...mPhase has proven it is possible to fabricate nanotech-based "smart" batteries, which can store reserve power for decades and generate electric current virtually on demand. The prototype battery is based on a Bell Labs discovery that liquid droplets of electrolyte will stay in a dormant state atop microscopic structures called "nanograss" until stimulated to flow, thereby triggering a reaction producing electricity..."

MPHASE TECHNOLOGIES DISCUSSES MAGNETOMETER, NANOBATTERY DEVELOPMENT, June 27
mPhase Technologies is building momentum for its product development by spreading the word about real-life homeland security and defense applications of its technology. mPhase is among more than 30 technology firms participating in the New Jersey Technology Council's Mid Atlantic Defense/Homeland Security Showcase being held today from 3 to 8 p.m. at Sarnoff Corporation, 201 Washington Road, Princeton, New Jersey.

DEVELOPING NEW LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES, June 26
Next-generation soldiers will wear vests with a battery to power the many high-tech devices that modern soldiers use in battle. Argonne - the nation's expert in lithium battery research - is developing the materials and cell chemistry for that battery.
Argonne's Chemical Engineering Division (CMT) researchers have the key to more robust lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries: new materials and improved cell chemistries. CMT has developed Li-ion technology for batteries small enough to be implanted in the human body and large enough to power hybrid electric cars.

SOLAR ENERGY STORED EFFICIENTLY, June 26
Pilot solar power-plant delivers promising results

For the first time solar energy has been successfully used in a pilot-plant to create storable energy from a metal ore. In a project funded by the EU, the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) together with other research institutes and industrial partners, have reached an important milestone.

ADSORBENT MATERIALS FOR HYDROGEN STORAGE, June 27
A research team from the Public University of Navarra has started a study of the design and development of absorbent materials that enable the storage of hydrogen, a clean fuel that can be used as an alternative to those derived from fossil fuels, such as petrol and diesel. The storage of this element is, in fact, a key process in the change over from internal combustion engines - contaminating and not very efficient, to cars with hydrogen fuel cells.
