On behalf of The New Energy Movement (NEM), I thank you for your interest in and support of the work of NEM. Much has happened in the intervening two years since our inaugural conference in September 2004 in Portland, Oregon. Our dedicated all-volunteer staff has made remarkable progress with little fanfare and only small trickles of funding. You are invited to read about our accomplishments in the appendix to this letter. Most especially, it is important that I inform you of new and exciting developments related to our program of briefings for members of Congress and their legislative aides about the need for federal support of new and unconventional energy technologies.

I was recently asked to appear with Senator Maria Cantwell (Washington) at a press conference to deliver the message of NEM to a large group of her constituents. My address was brief and focused to convey a few key points:

New Energy Movement vice president, Steve Kaplan, recently returned from spending a month and a half briefing various Congressional offices regarding new energy technologies and promoting legislation that would support new energy.

WASHINGTON, DC, USA -- From January 9, 2007 to February 14, 2007, I worked in Washington, D.C. on behalf of the New Energy Movement to educate Congressional aides about the realities of new energy R&D and our legislative initiative to increase support for the field. What follows is my report on what occurred, what was and was not achieved and what needs to be done in the future.
