RIGHT ANGLE CIRCUITRY
Posted on Tuesday, May 13, 2003 @ 01:16:39 UTC by vlad

Science "...OK, my brain hurts now. One last thing. Look at figure fifteen and imagine all sorts of "magnetic circuitry." Is there a magnetic equivalent of the vacuum tube or transistor? The heater or light bulb? And can we extend that PZT core into a ring of PZT wire, to create insulating electric circuitry which conducts only displacement current?! Yow!..."

Again, Bill Beaty has an excellent (and graphic) explanation for the "A & B" field at : www.amasci.com

The magnetic equivalent to the transistor is a device called a saturable reactor. They were used in industry before the advent of solid state power thyristors to control the speeds of ac motors. They were transformers with a magnetic shunt between the input and output coils. A control coil would "saturate" the flux in the shunt and not allow flux from the input coil to magnetize the output coil. They maybe described in old Industrial Electricity Texts if you can find one. The smaller version of these devices, used for regulation, were called Amplistats.
