Devices Hal Ade writes: Hello everyone at EVCO:
I came across this aluminium-based battery at the following web-site. Please have a look, and see what you think.
All the key essentials are at the web-site.
Sincerely,
Hal Ade

"...We introduce an invention which propably will be new "Nokia" for Finland. One scientist even dared to say that this invention is worth of Nobel prize. Rainer Partanen's invention represents new application of nanoscale electrochemistry opening a new window to this almost unknown branch of science. !!! Our collaboration- and investpartner in England has accepted our offer and subscribed shares worth of 2M USD. !!! "

Yet another company with a great idea that's looking for money to develop it. But if they're seeking money to build prototypes, then how do they know that the thing will work? Has there been any practical work done at all or is this all theoretical?

Aluminum-air cells have been around since at least the 80's. The surprising claim thats being made by the web site is that these cells have an "in situ" recharging capability, which surmounts the major drawback of aluminum-air cells.
A conventional aluminum-air cell uses a slab of aluminum which degrades into aluminum oxide to produce electric power. These slabs have to be manually replaced and the aluminum oxy-hydride solution needs to be drained and recycled to reconstitute the aluminum slab to repeat the cycle. There's not a whole lot of the "how its done" on the site, it only claims to use nanotechnology to accomplish this. Possibly a nanoscale substrate particle is used to redeposit the aluminum during the recycling process. Whatever it is, if it works it has real potential value and I'm not surprised the developers are not saying too much about the process.
