Posted on Saturday, January 17, 2004 @ 21:23:27 UTC by vlad Off topic but very interesting: "Investigation shows that there are several indications that the NASA is tampering with the colours, and changes them from an Earth-like environment into a red inhospitable environment. But it seems that the young scientists at Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) are not convenient with this..." "...At the press conference last saturday, the JPL-scientists showed the latest picture of the Martian landscape. It showed a salmon-coloured desert with a blue sky. It seems that they did it on purpose, since previous pictures were all extremely red. Below the pictures of the conference are shown:..." Or maybe they are not deceptions, maybe they are just different ways of looking at the same data for different purposes. Maybe there are no great conspiracies. NASA has been altering the colors of Mars since shortly after the first Viking Mission. I remember the first pictures that came in from Mars, and the sky was blue with the brownish-red landscape. Not long after that, they changed the color to red for no apparent reason. Later we found out that the engineers were told to alter the color on the monitors to the red spectrum. Very easy to do, but why? Never have figured this out, but most likely as a publicity ploy, so that this 'scenery' fit the public's perception. As usual, nothing is as it appears with the government.
