Randy writes: One of the most serious problems America faces today is the energy crisis, but if we will observe the examples provided by nature, nature itself may provide a design to end the energy crisis.

In our nanotech laboratories today, we have a structure developed in 2002 called a quantum confined atom that is basically a newer version of the quantum well. The QCA is basically a resonant chamber and not unlike many examples of energy systems in nature. A QCA is composed of a single atom confined in a semiconductor cage from 2 to 5 nanometers in size.

In a QCA the electron wave function interacts with the electrons in the semiconductor cage with a transfer of energy to the wave, and an amplification of this wave.

Our efforts right now are on producing a super efficient lighting source by so confining tiny phosphorescent particles and acquiring 1000 times the light energy from these as ordinary phosphorescent particles.

The QCA might some day be built with a superparamagnetic glass to take advantage of the tunnel effect and the energy of electrons in motion. A superparamagnetic sphere of size 2 to 5 nanometers confining a single atom would store magnetic energy on the outer shell, charge and discharge, and produce an amplified magnetic field that could be tapped for energy.

A chain of such structures might produce enough energy to produce an energy plasma.

The 21st century may provide many problems for man to solve but with the emerging science of nanotechnology, boundless possibilities and opportunities.
