I would like to draw attention to an otherwise neglected area of research that deals with the characteristics of electron transport on the surface of super clean conductors. The degenerate nature of the charge carriers in a metal makes it a recieving antenna for the ZPE fluxuations in the space around it. The Casimir affect in fact rests on the fact that vacuum fluxuations stop on the surface of a conductor. The principle that an electric field cannot exist on the surface of a conductor goes back to early static electricity. That electric field is turned into the movement of current on the surface, which gives rise to a counter potential that cancels any imposed field out. Whats that means is that on the surface of a conductor, charge carriers are being hammered by Zero point Field fluxuations which in turn cancel out the field by the self field they produce by moving. These movements are very short, 100 times shorter than the mean free path of the charge carriers, which means that they do not produce an accelerating effect on the charge carriers. If it were possible to either lengthen those movements or shorten the charge carriers mean free path, in principle some type of energy transfer should occur between the vacuum flux  and the charge carriers on those surfaces.
