According to a market survey conducted in the third quarter of 2000 by RKS Research & Consulting, North Salem, N.Y., on 831 energy-intensive companies in U.S. (in eight business sectors), one third of them expressed interest in generating their own electricity. Half of the business leaders surveyed said that self generation is the best strategy to meet their firm's growing electricity needs.
A residential survey was conducted at the same time on households with annual income in excess of $50,000 and the results show 31% of consumers expressed interest in generating their own power. David Reichman, president of RKS said: "I think what we're seeing is the beginning of something that's going to absolutely change the way the electric power industry works, the way electricity is distributed in this country. And I think that it's going to have a profound affect on every aspect of this industry and probably every industry."
And keep in mind: these people were talking about "classical" Distributed Generation (DG) applications such as advanced reciprocating engines, microturbines, fuel cells, etc. How would
