From KeelyNet.com: Much like Planet of the Apes, there are many 'old guard' scientists and engineers who resist change and new ideas, trying to control and suppress, embarrass or shut down anyone who dares call themselves a researcher or claims any theory which remotely drifts from what they mistakenly BELIEVE (like a religion!) to be immutable 'laws', these people do not belong here on this list... What are they doing, SPYING? Like we have something to hide when so much is out there to read and study for anyone wanting to learn. Kind of pisses me off, this 'I'm better than you attitude', cause you have a phd or work as a scientist or engineer...have no room in your frozen universe for any new ideas that might wind up with new technology where you would be a dinosaur with all your old 'laws' and controlling backwards attitudes.
Changes are coming..time for you to retire or move your sorry butt to
your own kind... As the old guard dies off, the young ones will open up
and create technical marvels because they still have curiosity. Read this
and look at the quotes and attitudes from the old DEAD guard which were
wrong then and are wrong NOW. Here are SOME of the equally idiotic
quotes from short sighted, closed minded, control freaks afraid
knowledge will simply outstrip them;
"Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible." (Lord Kelvin, president, Royal Society, 1895)
"The wireless music box has no imaginable commercial value. Who would
pay for a message sent to nobody in particular?" (David Sarnoff's
associates, in response to his urgings for investment in radio in the
1920's)
"The ordinary 'horseless carriage' is at present a luxury for the
wealthy; and although its price will probably fall in the future, it
will never come into as common use as the bicycle." -- The Literary
Digest, 1889.
"The bomb will never go off, and I speak as an expert in explosives." -- Adm. William Leahy, U.S. Atomic Energy Project, 1945.
"X rays are a hoax." "Aircraft flight is impossible." "Radio has no
future." -- Physicist and mathematician Lord Kelvin (1824-1907)
"Professor Goddard does not know the relation between action and
reaction and the need to have something better than a vacuum against
which to react. He seems to lack the basic knowledge ladled out daily in
high schools." (New York Times
editorial about Robert Goddard's revolutionary rocket work, 1921)
But
I know your type...one famous scientist told me, 'it doesn't matter who
invents and builds it, the ones who win the Nobel will go down in
history because they will do the math and correlations to EXISTING LAWS
and THEORIES'. He told me though it is built in a garage on a shoestring
budget, the inventor will not get the full historical credit, it will
be a scientist who will win the Nobel and get life tenure with his own
research building at some big, wealthy university. Anyone who DARES to
think ONLY THEY can use the word researcher or experimenter or theorist
is totally 'messed up' in the head.

I had to post Jerry's rant since I relate so much to it ... it happened to me a few times as well, and I'm sure there are many like us out there that would enjoy this post. Thx Jerry for putting into words the "bitch slap and boot to the head" we all feel like inflicting from time to time ;). Vlad
