The Engadget Interview: Sean McCarthy, CEO of Steorn
Posted on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 @ 21:32:43 UTC by vlad

Devices Today's interview is a first for Engadget in a couple ways: we've never talked with an executive whose company doesn't actually make or sell something, nor have we talked with anyone whose technology is theoretically infeasible. Still, we've all had our chance to criticize Steorn for its scientifically heretical claim to the invention of a perpetual motion machine, its failed live demonstration of that machine, and so on. So now it's time to turn the mic over to Steorn's CEO Sean McCarthy, where he discusses his belief in the potential of Steorn's Orbo technology, his feelings about the scientific community and skeptics at large, and what happens next for the supposed free energy company...

Interview: The Engadget Interview

Perpetual Motion CEO Interviewed (Wired Blogs)
By Rob Beschizza EmailJuly 18, 2007 | 6:18:23 AMCategories: Innovations

Sean McCarthy, CEO of Steorn, hasn't had the best of weeks. His perpetual motion machine mysteriously failed at a recent unveiling, and a tsunami of international ridicule washed over him and his unlikely device, which is said to glean "free energy" using magnetic fields. At Gadget Lab, most of us thought he was a prankster, testing the limits of media credulity; most other tech bloggers though he was totally serious.

Well, they were right, and I was wrong: McCarthy is today interviewed by Ryan Block, and insists his mobile is for real.

Absolute faith in results seen at the edge of detectability? Check. Gaining legal help to circumvent patent office prohibition on free energy machines? Check. Proposed device impossible under current theretical understanding of physics? Check. Free energy machine that actally works? Ch... oh, wait...

As soon as the latter can be consistently demonstrated and copied by anyone with the specs, Steorn wins.
