Hal Ade writes: Hello, everyone:
Most of you are getting this message via "bcc".
I received the item below from Walter Rosenthal, who is very much involved with Alternative Energy research and development, and is as concerned, as I am, and I believe you are, with the ramifications
of events post-9-11.

Ottawa, ON.
Subject: virus warning
From: Walter Rosenthal

During the next several weeks be VERY cautious about opening or launching any e-mails that refer to the World Trade Center or 9/11 in any way, regardless of who sent it. PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, "WTC" STANDS FOR THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. REALLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL OPEN IT RIGHT AWAY, THINKING ITS A STORY RELATING TO 9/11!
BIGGGG TROUBLE !!!! DO NOT OPEN "WTC Survivor" It is a virus that will erase your whole "C" drive.. It will come to you in the form of an E-Mail from a familiar person. I repeat, a friend sent it to me but called and warned me before I opened it. He was not so lucky and now he can't even start his computer!
Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this 25 times than not at all. So, if you receive an email called "WTC Survivor", do not open it. Delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries (.dll files) from your computer.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE!
This email was cleaned by emailStripper, available for free from http://www.papercut.biz/emailStripper.htm
Note: According to Symantec Security it appears to be a hoax - see comments.

General Virus handling suggestion (Score: 1) by Rob (rob@zpenergy.com) on Sunday, August 29, 2004 @ 23:18:36 UTC (User Info | Send a Message) http://www.zpenergy.com | I generally do not open any attachment unless I explicitly know what the attachment contains. Thus, so far, the only virus my machine has caught was the one that copied itself as soon as the PC was connected to a network.
Also, in Windows there is a setting called "Hide extensions for known file types" (Win2K: Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options.../View) . By default this option is enabled. Pure evil.
DISABLE THIS OPTION NOW!
That will enable you to see the extension of the attachment and if it is any of the following: .exe, .scr, .com, .pif, .xls, .doc (and probably others, please comment in that case) do not open the attachment!!
