Dear Vlad,

Some good thoughts. We are aware of about six metals that can form a high-resistance oxide layer. The use of the a.c. is to create the charge cluster (which pops through the oxide layer) and then heal (re-oxidize) the popped spot.

It might work with using a plastic film. However, it would be a short term occurrence for the emission of charge clusters because the film could not be re-healed.

Ken Shoulders told us about putting a thin layer of silicon carbide on an aluminum foil. We found that a layer of about 6 thousandth of an inch is best for making charge clusters in the air. The silicon carbide high a high melting point. However, the charge clusters vaporize a hole through both the aluminum and the silicon carbide layer...
