I just booked a hotel room. I want to get the inside scoop, see what the cold fusion researchers are saying about their challenges with the mainstream. We can spend all day reading about cold fusion on the Internet, but when it comes down to it, there's nothing like attending an event like this MIT event to see what's really happening and what researchers are thinking. I agree that other controversal science ideas from airplane flights to plate tectonics took years and sometimes decades to be accepted, well after they were already proven beyond a doubt. Cold fusion is probably in that stage right now. The problem is most people have written off cold fusion for dead. Sure, you can tell them it is 100% reproducible here or there, but when it comes down to it people want solid proof. In the U.S. that would mean a team from a mainstream research university verifying cold fusion once and for all and publishing their results in a peer reveiwed periodical. Of course, the cold fusioneers could circumvent this requirement by buidling a working model that does something useful, but as far as I can tell cold fusion isn't even close to reaching that point. It would have to be scaled up dramatically and by that point it should be undeniable anyway. | Parent
