JL, I'm not saying their cost numbers are reasonable. I'm only saying that there's no mistake in their mathematics, and they have no need to discuss finance charges at all.

They say the cost of the device is (almost) $3,000, and operating costs are $15 per month. Finance charges have nothing to do with these claims. Just as they have nothing to do with a car manufacturer that says a car costs $20,000 and you will spend $50 per month on average on fuel and maintenance. The $3,000 figure has absolutely no relation to the $15 figure at all--in other words, the price of gasoline has nothing to do with the price of the car. The 10 month year, incredibly low finance rate, etc., don't make any sense because you're trying to tie together two

The $15 dollar figure is not what it would cost to finance a $3,000 ED, nor does the page make any such claim. The 10 month year, incredibly low finance rate, etc., don't make any sense because you're trying to tie together two figures that have nothing to do with each other.

(The calculations by the other people in this thread are equally irrelevant, as they also try to tie these figures together.)

Maybe they're way off in their estimates, but there's certainly nothing inappropriate or unethical in anything on the GWE page. They need not include finance charges in the price of the device any more than a car manufacturer does. Maybe it doesn't include the cost of an inverter, but the walkie-talkies I just bought didn't include the cost of batteries, either.

I have no problem with criticizing GWE, but the criticisms need to be valid.
