He will bankroll crusade for new energy sources

TYCOON Sir Richard Branson vowed to give £1.6billion to combat global warming yesterday.
The
money, which will be invested over the next decade, will come from
profits at his travel firms, such as Virgin Atlantic airline and Virgin
Trains.
This will be ploughed into finding renewable, sustainable energy sources.
Virgin boss Branson warned: "We must rapidly wean ourselves off our dependence on coal and fossil fuels."

Speaking in New York, Branson said
last night: "The world is spiraling into disaster. Airlines produce two
per cent of the world's CO2.
"We'll
direct any dividends and share proceeds into setting up a company to
research clean fuels and alternative fuels for planes, cars, trains and
lorries.
