The response from Joel Garbon, President of The New Energy Movement
Dear Governor Richardson,
I applaud your initiative in positioning yourself as a champion of the new energy cause as a key part of your presidential campaign platform. My organization, The New Energy Movement (NEM), is a grassroots non-profit established to educate about the need to support the urgent and serious public and private funding of R&D for breakthrough new energy technologies. I routinely speak to large gatherings of citizens in this regard, including a recent press conference alongside Senator Maria Cantwell. The leadership of The New Energy Movement (NEM) has authored draft legislation titled "Energy Innovation Act of 2007" that was introduced to members of Congress in January-February 2007 (including meetings with legislative staffs of Obama, Kucinich, Hatch, Boxer, Smith, Wyden, and others). The draft legislation contains provisions you should become familiar with if you truly seek to use legislative action to advance new energy concepts. You can view the legislation at www.NewEnergyMovement.org by clicking on the link to "Energy Innovation Act of 2007" on the homepage. I also would be happy to send you a pdf copy at your request.
NEM has a large and active network of new energy inventors, researchers, and activists that are familiar with the national and planetary challenges, as well as the barriers to implementing real solutions. Our partner organization, New Energy Congress, is comprised of dozens of scientists, engineers, and inventors with long-term experience in the new energy arena. Its primary mission is to provide technical assessment of promising new energy technologies to verify the inventor's claims, and maintain a continuously updated and publicly viewable database of the top 100 new energy technologies. We believe this is a vital service in attracting investment capital to the technologies of merit. You can view this database by going to www.NewEnergyCongress and clicking on "Top 100".
It is important for you to be aware of the fact that our network is largely focused on "new and unconventional approaches to energy generation" that are truly breakthrough in nature. While we are supportive of the advances in the conventional renewables of wind, solar, biofuels, and hydropower, we recognize that a whole new class of powerful and clean energy technologies exist that need to be brought into the public commmercial domain. It is clear from our collective experiences that these disruptive energy technologies present a serious challenge to the established multi-national vested interests in hydrocarbon and nuclear energy. It is not surprising that there has been a great deal of obstructionism in light of the economic and geopolitical impacts of breakthrough energy technologies (i.e. clean, cheap, safe, renewable, globally-shared). My colleagues and I can certainly elaborate on this important aspect if you have a sincere interest in knowing why advances in new methods of energy generation have lagged way behind those in computing, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, medical diagnostics, nanotechnology, and other high-tech arenas.
This is a serious matter. Congress has been largely deaf and mute about the real issues to this point in time. Champions are needed who have the courage and integrity to ride the leading edge of a "tidal wave of wisdom" in inaugurating a new era of clean energy to address humanity's pressing environmental, geopolitical, and socioeconomic problems. We hope you are up to the challenge, and can recruit others in government circles to stand alongside us as well.
My intention in this communique is for you to understand that The New Energy Movement and New Energy Congress are powerful resources for those with the intention to usher in a clean energy age for our nation and the planet at large. Together with my colleagues, I welcome any questions you may have, and would warmly welcome you for a personal visit and meeting in my city of Portland, Oregon. Please contact me at 503-706-6193 if I may be of service to you.
Sincerely,
Joel Garbon President The New Energy Movement 503-706-6193 www.NewEnergyMovement.org www.NewEnergyCongress.org
